On this date in 1833, Andrew Jackson was the first U.S. President to ride a train. Speaking of Presidents, did you know the twenty-two sandstone columns that once supported the east portico of the U.S. Capitol were replaced in 1958? The U.S. Government kept them in storage until 1984 when they were brought back outside to see the light of day. The columns, which once towered behind Andrew Jackson as he took the oath of office back in 1829, now stand in an empty field at the National Arboretum.
