HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO THIS BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!
First of all, congratulations to myself for wasting another year of my life and congrats to you for wasting it with me. On a whim I decided to start this tumblr and a year later I have over 4,000 people reading it in 52 languages for 1.2 seconds. (Just kidding about the last part…um, it’s more like a minute) Speaking of the spoken word, I didn’t know that 6,500 languages are alive in the world today, with Mandarin Chinese being the most popular. (LOLspeak comes in second) I wonder if they’ll all soon be replaced by some computer programming language that hasn’t even been invented yet? Probably. I’ve never been good at language shit…I remember drawing pictures in my notebook and staring out the courtyard window during high school Spanish class. Then in college I nearly flunked sign language. And that was an elective! Okay, I’ve gone on a tangent here.
From the guy who has a bunch of old cartoon shit in his “museum” kitchen to the woman and her dog who live in a studio apartment full of trolls, I have covered over three-hundred weird and wonderful collections from thirty-something countries. Instead of highlighting the most popular posts, I’d like to revisit some of my personal favorites:
The Queen Elizabeth II Watermark from Atlanta’s Paper Museum
Sixty Miniature Heads from the London Science Museum (thanks to Huffington Post for the reblog)
Everyone wants to go to the Serial Killer Museum…in Italy of course
August von Spiess Museum of Hunting
The World’s Only Traveling Sadness Museum
…and because I’m a girl who doesn’t like old, white men telling me what to do America’s One and Only Birth Control Museum
People will always continue to be strange, so don’t worry, the world will not run out of odd museums and collections anytime soon. Thank you so much for the follows and likes and reblogs. I promise (with fingers crossed) to bring you more strangeness in the next year (well, unless I ever get a real job or the internet ends up killing me) so stay tuned.
