Believe it or not, but the thousands of scarecrow-like figures that stand creepily in a field in Finland that I told you about last week have some competition in Latvia. Yes, a terrifying collection of figures stand randomly in the center of the historic wine-making town of Sabile. No one knows exactly why they are there, except that a local woman makes the 200 straw dolls on display. So if you ever make a stop in this part of Latvia, you cannot miss them. Like I said, there’s 200 of these things. 200! The collection is terrifying simply by the fact that they look like regular people in everyday situations. Visitors will see “people” cooking a meal or walking a dog or even playing guitar. And the worst part? All the figures have a smile on their face, which is literally the stuff of nightmares. Sweet dreams!
