Let me preface this next post by saying smoking kills. I mean, there’s a 100% chance you’ll still die even if you don’t light up a cigarette now and again, but don’t cough up a lung while doing it. But I guess I shouldn’t tell that to our next crazy collector. Filling up an entire room in his house in Hangzhou, in China’s Zhejiang province, Wang Guohua set his unlit cigarettes’ sights on taking the Guinness Book of World Record for having the biggest cigarette pack collection on Earth. And he got what he wished for.
In nearly ten years he has amassed over 30,000 items. The boxes cover hundreds of labels from more than ten countries. I give Wang props for creative use of his cancer sticks, his room looks well-organized, almost like a piece of art, and it has even taken over the entire ceiling. Anytime I discuss the topic of smoking, my mind turns to the “future hole in the neck” star of Ma’s Roadhouse. Even with that voice, she’s still cool…telling it like it is.
