I have a friend who collects various versions of Monopoly games. I wonder if she knows that Discovery Meadow, near the Children’s Discovery Museum in San Jose, California has the “Monopoly in the Park” board, the largest permanent version of the game in the world. Constructed in 1992, the massive board is made of granite slabs and covers over 900 square feet. The massive corner spaces like “Free Parking” or “Jail” each weigh almost 250 pounds. And because this game can’t get any bigger (or can it?), there are also massive ornamental dice on display. Believe it or not, the game is entirely playable (you can rent the board here), but due to the fact that Monopoly usually takes several lifetimes to complete, “Monopoly in the Park” provides a banker, announcer, and coordinator so that doesn’t happen. Also, you have to wear the tokens on your head! (see here, if you don’t believe me)
