Once lived in an apartment full of cockroaches, which was like that from the moment I moved in, so I have a special place in my heart for exterminators. My mind is still ingrained with the image of a bunch of dead roaches stuck to an adhesive trap being pulled out from under my stove. Oh, and that one night I woke up to a roach crawling on my slipper. AAAHHH!!!
Anyway, the art of extermination is celebrated in all its glory at Cook’s Pest Control in Decatur, Alabama. At their FREE Natural Science Museum visitors learn the tale of the pest, everything they ever wanted to know about rats, cockroaches, mice, spiders and termites. It originally started as a training facility, but has now grown to over 2,000 exhibit displays, including the popular Pest of the Month. Is that when rats pose provocatively for a geriatric in pajamas and smoking jacket? A few glass cabinets are filled with termite-ravaged items like holes in the drywall, gutted books, and a half-eaten hammer and chair. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any interesting pictures of the museum, so I leave you with the nightmarish image of a person being attacked by a giant cockroach.
