I just discovered my future home: Twist, Germany. The origin of the town’s name has nothing to do with Chubby Checker’s famous dance. It’s due to Germany’s long disagreement with the Dutch over borders. “Twistrich” or “Twist Gebiet” in Low German means “disputed border”. Anyway, I think this is the first time we have visited an oil and gas museum. How exciting for loyal reader Dick Cheney! The Erdöl-Erdgas-Museum has several exhibits on the historical development and technology of the extraction of these natural energy resources. The crude oil and natural gas industry has a long history in the area of Twist as it is sometimes called “the German Texas”. Let’s forget I ever said I had an interest in moving to Twist. I really (I mean REALLY) dislike Texas. Sorry to any Texans out there who might be reading this. Even though I have Texan cousins and friends, I prefer the North.
Because the Twist Museum isn’t very exciting (but what a great name!), I’ve decided to post a random picture of a petrol station in the middle of Berlin’s Charlottenburg area. Unfortunately, the picture is all mine. And I wrote petrol instead of gas station because I always think of my Brit friend who hates how Americans say “GAAAAAASS”. But I think that’s because he’s so used to hearing my nasal Chicago accent all the time saying “GAAAAAASS”.
