The Frank and Jane Clement Brick Museum in Buffalo, New York has a collection of, well, you guessed it…a ton of bricks. The museum isn’t one in the classic sense, but located in the Clement Family home in suburban Orchard Park. Their driveway features 12,000 “brand” bricks from across the country. In case you’re not a brick historian, brands refer to the markings on the brick’s face, which began in the 1860s as a form of advertising. Only about 1 in 5,000 bricks will bear some kind of brand. Because collecting bricks just wasn’t enough for these hoarder types, there is also a bunch of terra cotta chimney pots for your viewing pleasure. The history dork that lives inside me and loves everything Chicago-related is excited to learn Mr. Clement also has bricks from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Now that’s something I’d be tempted to steal. I know that’s probably illegal…but, hey, it’s just brick. Something you can steal? My brick-themed music playlist! If you don’t like it, then just throw a brick at me.
