Distracted drivers going north on I-17 from Phoenix to Flagstaff might notice a large Christmas tree in the middle of the desert…you know, that dry and barren area of land where it’s not cold with freezing rain like most of the United States right now. Located in the middle of freakin’ nowhere (Cordes Junction, Arizona to be exact), a large Juniper tree has been mysteriously decorated on an annual basis for the last twenty years. Come mid-January, the Christmas decorations are removed and the tree’s 15 minutes are up and it returns to anonymity. No one knows who “Christmas Deep Throat” is, although the Arizona Republic has tried to figure it out for decades. Supposedly Highway Patrol officers on this busy stretch of freeway once spotted the decorator(s), but continued to drive right by in order to continue this strange Christmas tradition.
