On the outskirts of Interlaken, a resort town in Switzerland, is Mystery Park, a museum/amusement park dedicated to the great “mysteries” of the world. The park was designed by Erich von Däniken, who believes that alien astronauts not only inspired the Egyptian and Mesoamerican pyramids but had their hands in virtually every ancient “mystery” from Stonehenge to the stone statues of Easter Island. The park is a collection of oddly shaped buildings, including one that resembles the Great Pyramid of Khufu. Seven themed “pavilions” each feature a short movie illustrating a different von Däniken theory, as well as artifacts and dioramas of ancient sites, like the ancient geoglyphs in southern Peru and the Great Pyramid of Giza. And for those who think the world will end on 21 December 2012, don’t worry von Däniken has that shit covered in one of the pavilions. He analyzed the Mayan calendar and concluded that the gods will come back. Okay that’s one mystery solved. Unfortunately the park lasted as long as a fake alien encounter. Opened in 2003, it closed a few years later. But it later re-opened for the summer seasons only as Jungfrau Park. So if you are into weird stuff, I suggest you pay a visit soon before this place closes for good.
