Considering it’s National Cat Day and I’m supposed to tell you about all things creepy, well, I think this is the perfect time for the cat and the rat who live for eternity behind glass in the crypt of Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral. A cat and rat (presumably one chasing the other) got caught in the church’s organ in the 1850s and were mummified. James Joyce (read about his death mask here) used both cat and rat as a simile in Finnegan’s Wake when he described someone being “…as stuck as that cat to that mouse in that tube of that Christchurch organ…”
