Don’t know where you are in the world, but here in Chicago it is boiling. Not my cup of tea (iced, please?), but I have a funny feeling “Thermometer Man” Richard Porter would like the 90 plus temps. For 35 years, Porter has collected over 5,000 thermometers at flea markets, yard sales, antique shops and overseas trips, from your everyday models to high-tech gadgets. They are all stuffed into the Porter Thermometer Museum in Onset, Massachusetts. Some of the unusual items include a 1920s Cracker Jack prize of a woman’s shoe with a mini-thermometer attached, a Russian Rocket and a 150 year old French woodcut thermomètre. Porter is proud of his entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as well as his repairman expertise. He has fixed thermometers from as far away as New Zealand. Hey, anyone know the current temperature? Dick knows!
