My cousin’s daughter turned 21 today so I’ve been bombarded with endless selfies, “21″ balloons, and girly drinks like pink moscato (just serve over ice…WHAT???). When I haven’t been rolling my eyes, I’ve been thinking how I wish I could take her out for some real booze, like say vodka. Did you know Russia has a Vodka Museum? Because of course it does. I mean, we’re talking about the country’s signature booze of choice. At the world’s only museum of vodka* you’ll find rows and rows of empty bottles in all shapes and sizes, an extensive collection of traditional short vodka glasses and stoppers as well as old advertising campaigns. Everything’s in Russian, which probably doesn’t matter much unless you really want to read an in depth history (then go home and find a book in your language of choice). But like any place dedicated to liquor, every museum tour ends with a complimentary vodka tasting (including traditional Russian snacks) where guests can also browse the adjacent gift shop to stock up on real Russia vodka and other vodka-themed souvenirs. “Tvoye zdorovye!”
*There is supposedly another Vodka Museum in Amsterdam, but maybe Russians don’t acknowledge that it exists because, you know, it’s not in Russia.
