World’s Tallest Pope Statue, Czestochowa, Poland

With everyone and their Catholic grandmother talking about Pope Francis’ visit to the United States, I bet you were wondering where the world’s tallest Pope statue is located? Even though you’d probably guess Vatican City, the correct answer is actually Czestochowa (pronounced, like, Chestakova) in Poland. Don’t forget Pope John Paul II was Polish; his birth name was Karol Józef Wojtyła (now say that ten times fast). So it is fitting that he is remembered in his home country with a 13.8-meter-tall monument. But some people have criticized this memorial as it was created by a company that specialises in fiberglass dinosaur statues for European theme parks, which may or may not be in poor taste. But what’s not to like with a pose that says, “Hey, guys! I’m the Pope. Deal with it.”
