It’s time to go to Vietnam and visit the De Lat Crazy House, which can be best summarized as Gaudi meets Alice in Wonderland meets Antarctica. The exterior is full of twisting concrete shapes that look like tree trunks and caves. There are irregular-sized windows and secret staircases. But the inside is just as strange. One room has the red eyes of a kangaroo staring back at you. All the beds are built into nooks with a bunch of carved and/or painted birds overhead.
The architect of the guest house, Hang Nga, still lives on site. She is the daughter of a former Vice President of Vietnam. The building is open for tours during the day as well as available for overnight stays. Let’s go!
